PDO Threads

Minimally invasive procedure to target sagging jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, unwanted midface wrinkles, sagging neckline, undefined jawlines, etc. to pull up the targeted areas and achieve the desired look.

  • What are PDO Threads?

PDO Threads are absorbable sutures made from polydioxanone, a biocompatible material. They are used in cosmetic procedures to lift and tighten sagging skin.

    How do PDO Threads work?

PDO Threads stimulate collagen production and provide structural support to the skin. They are inserted under the skin to lift and tighten specific areas, improving the overall texture and appearance.

What areas can be treated with PDO Threads?

PDO Threads are commonly used to lift and tighten areas such as the face, neck, jowls, and brows. They can also be used for non-surgical butt lifts and thigh lifts.

How long do the effects of PDO Threads last?

The longevity of results varies, but effects can last anywhere from six months to over a year. The threads gradually dissolve over time, but the collagen stimulation can continue to improve skin quality.

Is the PDO Thread procedure painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal. Local anesthetic is often applied to the treatment areas to ensure patient comfort during the procedure.

What is the downtime after PDO Thread treatment?

Downtime is generally minimal, but patients may experience some swelling, bruising, or mild discomfort. Most people can resume their normal activities shortly after the procedure.

Are there any side effects associated with PDO Threads?

Common side effects include swelling, bruising, and tenderness at the insertion sites. Serious complications are rare but can include infection or thread migration.

Who is a good candidate for PDO Threads?

Good candidates are typically individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity who are looking for a non-surgical solution to lift and tighten specific areas.

Can PDO Threads be combined with other cosmetic procedures?

Yes, PDO Threads can be used in conjunction with other treatments such as dermal fillers, Botox, or laser therapy to achieve a more comprehensive facial rejuvenation.

Can PDO Threads be removed if necessary?

While PDO Threads are designed to be absorbable, they can be removed if needed. However, removal is not a common practice and is usually reserved for specific situations.

How long does a PDO Thread procedure take?

The procedure duration varies based on the number of threads and treatment areas but typically ranges from 30 minutes to an hour.

What is the recommended aftercare for PDO Thread treatment?

Aftercare may include avoiding strenuous activities for a short period, refraining from excessive facial movements, and following any specific instructions provided by the healthcare professional.

  • The purpose of this consent form is to provide written information regarding the risks, benefits and alternatives of treatment with PDO threads. This material serves as a supplement to the discussion you have with your Crawford Cosmetics provider. It’s important that you fully understand this material, so please read this information thoroughly. If you have any questions regarding the procedure, ask your Crawford Cosmetics provider prior to signing this consent form.

TREATMENT GOALS AND DESCRIPTION OF PROCEDURE Treatment with PDO threads will be used in a minimally invasive procedure to target sagging jowls, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, unwanted midface wrinkles, sagging neckline, undefined jawlines, etc. to pull up the targeted areas and achieve a desired look. PDO thread lift is a temporary procedure and will not stop the process of aging; it will tighten skin and improve wrinkles. From patient to patient, lifting results from PDO threads may vary and continuation of PDO threads is recommended for maintaining the effects of the lift. The results are visible immediately. Patients usually tolerate the procedure without any significant difficulty. We apply numbing cream and/or focal anesthesia to minimize discomfort.

    BEST CANDIDATE

Age: 30-60-year-old patients are typical but may vary depending on other factors on this list.

Skin Type: Excessively too thin- skinned or thick-skinned patients are not ideal candidates for a PDO thread Lift. When patients are too thin-skinned, their veins may be seen easily and when threads are used, they will have significant bunching and dimpling.

When patients are too thick-skinned, they will have a thick dermal layer and even if the threads are placed in the correct plane, the lift will not be apparent.

Laxity: Patients who have significant laxity and redundancy are not a good candidate for this procedure as the threads can cause bunching due to prominent lift.

Medical History: Patients who are on blood thinners, smoke cigarettes regularly, who heavily drink are not great candidates for the procedure.

Surgical History: Patients who have gotten surgery in recent months (3-4 months) are not recommended to receive this procedure due to their immune system possibly being compromised and causing a longer downtime and possibility of infection after the PDO thread procedure.

TREATMENT RESULTS Most patients are pleased with the results of their PDO thread treatment. However, like any aesthetic procedure, there is no guarantee that you will be completely satisfied. There is no guarantee that wrinkles and folds will disappear completely, or that you will not require additional treatment to achieve the results you seek. PDO threads last temporarily and additional treatments will be required periodically to maintain the full effect. The duration of treatment is dependent on many factors including but not limited to: the type of PDO thread used, age, sex, tissue conditions, your general health and lifestyle conditions, and sun exposure. Results may last up to 1-2 years, and in some cases may last shorter or longer.

    PRE-LIFT INSTRUCTIONS

Please do not drink alcohol for 1-2 days prior to the procedure.

Please do not smoke 1-2 days before and 1-2 days after the procedure.

Please discontinue the use of blood thinners 2-3 days before the procedure. If patient is taking

Warfarin, it is recommended to stop taking it 5 days prior to the procedure. Please consult with your

prescribing physician before discontinuing your blood thinners.

    POST-LIFT INSTRUCTIONS

Patients may go back to everyday life (i.e. driving, eating, walking, etc.) right after the procedure.

Swelling may be present after the procedure but the use of ice packs for 30 minutes for a few days will help lessen with swelling.

Avoid washing hair and taking a shower for the next 24 hours after the procedure.

When washing your face after 24 hours, gently wash the required area.

Avoid drinking or smoking for about 1-2 weeks to prevent possible infection.

Smoking and drinking will slow down the healing process.

Avoid chewing, yawning, or smiling too large for up to 1 month.

Avoid lying down either in a supine or prone position 4 hours after the procedure to decrease the possibility of the movements of threads.

It is recommended to sleep in a proper position for the next 3-5 days to prevent maneuvering of Threads.

Avoid headstands, yoga, strenuous workouts, and exaggerated facial expressions for about 2-3 weeks. (Avoid dental treatments during this time if possible)

Face may be bound with bandages for 1-2 days after the procedure to help with swelling and stability if needed.

Deep facial massages should be avoided for the next couple months, however laser treatments may be done after a week from the procedure.

    POTENTIAL RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

Although PDO thread lifts are low risk procedures, every surgical procedure involves a certain amount of risk and complications.

    Relapse

Despite the thread effectively lifting areas listed above, over time and as the patient ages, wrinkles and sagging will recur.

    Bleeding & Bruising

Like any other procedure, there is a possibility of bleeding and bruising, but it will subside after a couple days and 1-2 weeks respectively.

    Scars

Should an incision be made during the procedure, a scar may result, but it will typically be made in the hairline to avoid showing (speak to your doctor if an incision will be made, typically no incisions are made).

    Pain or Discomfort

Due to threads being placed in the skin, there may be discomfort in the area for several days after the procedure, but will lessen over time. Pain and discomfort can be managed by taking ibuprofen (ex. Motrin, Advil, etc.).

    Disorder of face movement

This is rare, but depending on the pulling within the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer, it can affect a branch of the facial nerve and can cause disorders in facial movements, however this typically recovers over time.

    Skin necrosis

Skin necrosis is the loss of blood circulation which leads to dead skin. This is rare with PDO Thread Lift treatments, but should this occur, additional treatments or surgery may be necessary.

    Hair Loss

Minimal hair loss may appear at the start point of the procedure (temporal fascia), depending on the lift.

    Dimpling & Bunching

Dimpling and bunching may occur due to the barbed threads being placed inside the skin, however this can be massaged out by the provider. Should these occur, additional treatments including surgery may be necessary.

    Visibility

Visibility of threads may apply to patients with thin skin or when inserted into thin skinned areas on the face. Should this occur, additional treatments or surgery may be necessary.

    Migration

After the PDO Thread Lift procedure, there is possibility of thread migration which may lead to further treatment of thread removal.

    Drug & Local Anesthetic

Patients may show symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, lightheadedness, fainting, or even death from the use of local anesthetics and epinephrine. Please provide ahead of time any allergic sensitivity and reactions to anesthesia you have experienced in the past. In addition, should the aforementioned symptoms occur during the procedure, medical treatment may be necessary.
